The tripartite mission of the Center for Health Care Quality (CHCQ) is to advance MU Health's ability to:

  1. provide exemplary patient-centered care;
  2. conduct innovative educational programs that result in health care professionals prepared to assess and improve the quality, safety and value of patient care; and,
  3. advance patient care quality, safety and value through research and scholarship.

To carry out its mission, CHCQ invests its resources in a variety of roles including but not limited to that of convener, host, consultant, evaluator, sponsor, partner, and initiator. The guiding principles behind CHCQ are intended to create a "causeway linking islands of excellence" to synergize and enhance their overall productivity. As such, the Center strives to foster a spirit of encouraging an active and open exchange of ideas, development of collaborative arrangements, consultation towards experimentation and study of innovative approaches, and the dissemination of new knowledge that improves health care quality, safety, and value throughout the academic health campus.


The Program for Clinical Quality Improvement, Consultation and Technical Assistance seeks to enhance the efforts of units within MU Health to continually improve patient care quality, safety, and value for patients, payers, and MU Health personnel.

The Program for Education Innovation and Improvement strives to improve quality, safety, and value improvement education and professional development for health professionals in training and practice.

The Program in Improvement Sciences and Health Services Research increases the University of Missouri's faculty and staff research productivity and scholarly contributions to patient care quality, safety, and value improvement literature.
