There is awareness that numerous quality improvement projects have occurred and continue to be carried out within the University of Missouri Health Care system. However, there is also an acute awareness that the results of these projects are typically not tracked nor widely disseminated throughout the system. Because of this lack of dissemination, knowledge is not shared between staff and physicians throughout the system. The purpose of creating the Performance Improvement Initiative Inventory (PI3) is to establish a permanent longitudinal and searchable data base of clinical and support service performance improvement initiatives carried out within University of Missouri Health Care facilities. This will enable staff to learn from other initiatives, to apply them in their own work settings, and / or to use similar methods in their own improvement projects. Any UMHS user will be able to search the database for published quality or process improvement projects so that the knowledge that is generated within UMHS is appropriately shared.
